Music Review: NAV- Bad Habits: The Epitome of No Progression
NAV has come back once again and released yet another album continuing his streak of releasing at least one full-length album per year with the release of this album, Bad Habits. NAV is an artist that in the past has released music that I find to be overly mediocre at best. Especially with his last album reckless which I’ve sadly heard some songs from which all sounded so bland, uninteresting and effortless. So when I went to listen to this, I just wanted something that showed some progress and maybe something that would indicate that he is finally putting some effort into his material. Yet he once again comes through with an album that is the same thing as his past efforts.
NAV does not do anything different on this album at all. He keeps releasing lackluster music that does not have any impact in any way on music nor music listeners. Everything that’s bad about his music before is presented to the forefront once again on this album. His flows are consistently boring throughout every song on this album, and that’s bad especially when there are 16 tracks on this album. The lyrics on this album are just as bad ever when it comes to a NAV record. There’s no way he spends more than 20 minutes writing lyrics for each song that is on this album. It is so apparent just how little effort is put into the writing process on this album, and it’s all the same. It’s him bragging about how much money he has and about all the girls he has sexual relations with and how great he is, which boggles my mind because who honestly thinks that this guy is a great artist like honestly now. What has he ever done that makes him stand out from most music artists in the trap rap scene today? The answer is nothing. He is here to insert his music right into the middle of the mainstream and stay out of the limelight. The beats on this album are not unique in any way shape or form. If you were to take the beats from this album and then try to guess which song the beat belongs on, you would never match them up unless you listen to this album hundreds of times and if you do that I seriously question your sanity. All of the beats are these moody and gloomy trap rap beats that are very dull and like I said before very repetitive.
It becomes more evident to me that NAV’s sole purpose in music is to gain the clout that he talks about in his songs and that’s about it. If he cared for his craft, I feel that he would be more into changing his style a little bit, maybe try to become more of a unique rapper in the rap scene. Maybe make some music that sounds like an actual attempt at art, but when you are releasing music that sounds the same each year, it shows that you don’t care.
Overall, this album shows that NAV is the epitome of no progression. He continues to make the most boring, lazy and unfulfilling music that is possible to make in today’s rap scene. I find this more tedious to listen to then the Gunna album that was released earlier this year, which at the time was the worst album I had heard this year, but the pure lack of effort I believe makes this album even worse
